ADRIAN, Mich. - It was a comeback win for the Bulldogs in game one before play was suspended due to rain in the second as Adrian improved to 22-14 (10-5 MIAA) in a 5-3 win over Calvin. Right after the Bulldogs senior day festivities finished up in between games, heavy rain forced the delay, as the two teams will wrap-up the series tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
Calvin started the scoring in game one when Lina Avila hit a two-run home run off of Kelly Eberhardt, making the score 2-0 in Calvin's favor. Eberhardt would settle in and only allow one run over the last four innings of play.
Adrian came out swinging in the bottom of the fourth, as the Bulldogs scored four runs off of four hits in the inning. Brittany Bertrand scored the first Adrian run off of a Tara Camper single, then Sarah Hall touched home plate off a double from Ravin Toner. Camper and Toner would also score in the inning, making the score 4-2 in the Bulldogs favor.
After the big bottom half of the fourth, Eberhardt struck out the side in the top of the fifth, notching three of her five strikeouts on the game.
In the top of the sixth inning, Avila led off for the Knights and hit her second home run off of Eberhardt, making the score 4-3.
The Bulldogs would add an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning when Hall scored her second run of the game off of Toner's second double of the game. Hall finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate, while Toner went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Eberhardt earned win number 16 on the year, going the whole seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits.
The two teams will meet again from the AC Softball Field tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. as the Bulldogs will try to earn the win that would give Adrian the two seed in the MIAA Tournament. Currently, Adrian is 10-5 in conference and one game back of 11-5 Alma for second place.
The Bulldogs hold the tie-breaker over the Scots, so a win in the game tomorrow against Calvin will give Adrian the two seed, and Alma the three for the tournament. The MIAA softball tournament will begin Thursday at the number one seed, 32-6 (13-1MIAA) Trine.
