ANGOLA, Ind. - Adrian will play again tomorrow in the MIAA Tournament, after splitting its first two games on day one. The Bulldogs fell to two seed Alma 5-2, then bounced back to beat St. Mary's 6-2.
In game one against Alma, the Bulldogs started the scoring in the top of the second inning, when a Sarah Hall double drove in Brittany Bertrand for the first run of the game. The Bulldogs left two runners on base for the inning, which would be a recurring theme in the game for Adrian. In total, Adrian left 10 runners on base against the Scots.
Eberhardt had a nice start to the game, giving up two runs through the first four innings. The bats came out in the fifth and sixth innings for the Scots however, as Alma scored three runs in the last two innings.
Trailing 5-1 in the top of the seventh, Adrian was unable to get anything started and lost, forcing the Bulldogs to play in the losers bracket of the tournament. The Bulldogs took on St. Mary's in the second game, as the Belles fell to top-seeded Trine, 5-2.
In the bottom of the third, St. Mary's went ahead 2-1 after scoring two runs on three hits off of pitcher Jami Shafley. The Bulldogs would get those runs back, after a Bertrand run from a single by Katrina Wotten, followed by a two-run home run from Tara Camper.
Hinojosa drove in Maggie Hein for another run in the inning, as the Bulldogs plated four runs to take a 5-2 lead. In the bottom half of the fourth, Eberhardt replaced Shafley at pitcher, only to strikeout three consecutive Belles to end the inning.
Eberhardt was great in relief on the day, retiring three straight in the fifth, and doing the same in the sixth. The Belles were unable to scratch Eberhardt in the seventh inning, as the Bulldogs won 6-2.
Adrian is scheduled to play at noon tomorrow in the double elimination formatted tournament. The Bulldogs will play the loser of the Trine/Alma game.
