Comeback Attempt Falls Short as Trine Ends Adrian's Season

ANGOLA, Ind. - It was a fighting comeback attempt for Adrian that fell short in the final innings as the Thunder of Trine eliminated the Bulldogs from the MIAA Tournament in a 9-6 loss for Adrian. The Bulldogs are now 23-17 on the season and the players await their fate to find out if they will advance to the NCAA Central Regional.

Trine started the game hot from the plate, scoring two runs in the first, second and third innings, before putting up three in the fourth. The Bulldogs never game up, despite trailing 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

In the fifth, Maggie Hein singled to start the inning followed by another single from Katie Dewyre. Brooke Stewart then walked, loading the bases for Kaitlyn Hinojosa, who's sac-fly scored Hein.

Brittany Bertrand came up to the plate next and nailed her second homerun of the season. The three-run shot scored Dewyre and Stewart, making the score 9-6.

Adrian was unable to get anything started in the last two inning from the plate, recording only one hit in the sixth and seventh innings.

For the game, Dewyre went 3-for-4 from the plate, while Bertrand went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs.

In the championship game, Alma defeated Trine, earning the MIAA Title.

In the latest rankings, the Bulldogs were fifth in the Central Region, with the top eight teams advancing to the NCAA Regional. Adrian will wait until Monday to find out whether or not they will advance to the post-season.
