KENTWOOD, Mich. – The month of April got off to a great start for the Adrian College softball team as they hit the road and won a pair of games at Calvin College on Thursday. The MIAA opener for both schools saw the Bulldogs win 8-4 and 5-2 over the Knights.
Katie Dewyre and K'ya Toles-Burton supplied the offense for the Bulldogs in game one. Dewyre went 2-for-3 with a run, walk and four RBI's. Her fifth inning double cleared the bases and gave Adrian a 4-2 lead. Toles-Burton's triple in the sixth inning scored Morgan Brandt and she came all the way around to score on an error to give Adrian a 7-4 lead.
Lina Avila lost for just the second time this season (5-2) but allowed just three earned runs (eight total). Brooke Stewart got the win for Adrian (4-4) allowing seven hits and no earned runs (four total) with a walk and eight strikeouts (42 for the season).
Kelsey Meyer got the start in game two for the Bulldogs and allowed six hits over seven innings to improve to 2-6 in the circle. Meyer yielded two earned runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Caitlin Callow went just 1.2 innings for Calvin allowing four earned runs with three walks.
Jessica Sarch went 1-for-4 with her first double of the season and also had two RBI's. Karissa DeVore rapped her third double of the season going 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Kaitlyn Hinojosa had a hit in two at-bats and had a pair of walks.
