ALMA, Mich. – The softball team showed a lot of heart on Sunday as they pushed Alma College to the limit in a 3-2 game one loss. The Bulldogs jumped ahead 1-0 in the second and held that lead until the fourth inning when the Scots scored their three runs. Adrian cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the seventh but could not get over the hump.
Jessica Sarch had a big RBI single in the second but had a chance to do more by leaving the bases loaded. Amanda Schneider had the game-winning RBI's on a double in the fourth. Sarch got a rally started in the seventh with a one-out single. Sarch took second on a wild pitch and later the bases were again loaded as Brooke Stewart reached on an error to score the run to pull within one. Morgan Brandt grounded out to shortstop to end the game. Adrian left 10 runners on base in game one. Stewart threw six innings and allowed seven hits and three earned runs. She also did well by striking out seven Scots.
Alma scored in five of seven innings in game two for an 8-1 win over the Bulldogs. Schneider went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI's for Alma. Sarch finished her strong day going 2-for-3 with a walk in game two. Adrian had six hits in game two but none for extra bases. Kelsey Meyer took the loss giving up five earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts.
