Softball Drops Pitcher's Duel versus Alma, 1-0

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Adrian College softball team had their nine-game win streak snapped on Thursday in the opening game of the 2013 MIAA Tournament by a final of 1-0 against Alma College. The Bulldogs have yet to figure out a winning formula against the Scots who have won five of the last six meetings in the tournament format. This contest was a pitcher's duel with the Scots scoring their run in the bottom of the third inning.

Amanda Schneider had a one-out single up the middle and then stole second. Schneider moved to third on a groundout and Lea Lusk had the two-out RBI double to left field to plate Schneider with the winning run. Alma managed six hits off Adrian starter Kelsey Meyer. Meyer had one of her best outing this spring allowing just one run in six innings with two strikeouts.

Louise Rezmer matched Meyer and in the end got the win in the circle moving to 15-4. Rezmer allowed three hits, all singles, with 10 strikeouts and one walk. Adrian left six runners on base in the game and had their best chance to tie the game in the top of the sixth. Jessica Sarch led off with a single to left and took second on an error by the left fielder. Sarch took third on a groundout but remained there after a one-out grounder back to Rezmer. Karissa DeVore was hit by a pitch to put the go-ahead runner at first, but a groundout to shortstop ended the threat.

Meyer and Morgan Brandt each had a base hit for the Bulldogs who had not had three hits or less in a game over the last 12 contests. The Bulldogs will now be fighting for survival against either Trine or Hope at 3:30 p.m.
