ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Defending champion Trine has been installed as the preseason favorite to repeat as softball champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
The Thunder, who became the first team in 14 years to go through MIAA conference play unbeaten last year, received eight out of a possible nine first-place votes in the preseason poll of the league's coaches. Alma, which was picked to finish second, received the other first-place vote. Coaches could not vote for their own team.
The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth following a record of 19-17 in 2013 and a runner-up finish in the 2013 MIAA playoffs.

The Bulldogs will begin their season when they head on their spring trip to Florida from March 2 through March 7. They will follow this trip with a non-conference home doubleheader against Bluffton March 12 at 3:30 p.m.
