CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bulldogs saw their toughest opponents of their spring trip as they took on #13 Augustana (Ill.) and #16 Lebanon Valley in their third day of action Tuesday afternoon. Adrian came out strong as they took down the 13th ranked Vikings in a 6-1 victory. Then Bulldogs then fell just short to the 16th ranked Flying Dutch in a 3-2 decision.
The Bulldogs took out their highest ranked opponent of the early 2014 season in game one as they beat up on 13th ranked Augustana (Ill.). Adrian opened with a run in the first inning and slowly added to their lead as they added a run in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. The Bulldogs then secured their victory with a two-run seventh as they advanced to 4-1 in 2014.
The Bulldogs were led by Jessica Sarch as she led the Adrian offense with a 3-5 performance and two runs scored. K'Ya Toles-Burton went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kaitlin Lock went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Sarah Richardson had a pinch hit double with an RBI in her first at bat as a Bulldog.
Game two saw Adrian drop a close 3-2 game to Lebanon Valley. The Bulldogs carried a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning but the Flying Dutch notched two runs before Adrian could answer. The Bulldogs failed to tie the game in their final at bat as they fell to the 16th ranked Flying Dutch and dropped their record to 4-2.
The Bulldogs will see action again in Clermont, Florida when they take on St. Benedict and Aurora March 6.
