Bulldogs Complete Second Day Sweep In Extras Over Thiel

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bulldogs continued their play on their spring trip in Clermont, Florida Monday as they took on Immaculata and Thiel. Adrian swept the games as they took out Immaculata 9-1 and followed that with a 5-4 win over Thiel in eight innings to advance their 2014 record to 3-1.

The first game saw the Bulldogs take out Immaculata 9-1 behind Kaitlin Lock as she pitched four shutout innings and struck out five.

The Bulldogs secured this victory with a big five-run fifth inning. Jessica Sarch sparked the Adrian offense as she went 2-3 with an RBI. Kaitlyn Hinojosa went 2-4 with two runs scored and Cassondra Smith went 1-3 with a double and two RBIs. Katie Dewyre went 1-2 with two RBIs.

Amanda Sare and Chelsea Shellman each recorded a single and a stolen base in their first at bat as a Bulldog.

Game two saw Adrian take out Thiel 5-4 in extra innings. Brooke Stewart made the start for the Bulldogs as she pitched four innings and gave up one run. Kelsey Meyer notched the win and improved her 2014 record to 2-0 as she pitched four innings and allowed three runs on five hits.

Sarch went 3-5 with an RBI and Hinojosa went 2-4 with a run scored. DeVore went 2-4 with a run scored and Macy Laws went 1-5 with the game-winning RBI.

The Bulldogs took home the win in the eighth inning after Dewyre moved Morgan Brandt into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Sarch followed this with an infield single. Macy Laws then drove the winning run home on a fielder's choice.  

The Bulldogs will continue their play in Clermont, Florida March 4 as they take on Augustana (Ill.) and Lebanon Valley.
