CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bulldogs took the field again Thursday morning after a day off as they met the College of St. Benedict. The Blazers took the lead early as they methodically advanced their lead to 5-0. The Bulldogs comeback fell short as they scored two runs in the seventh inning and fell to 4-3 on the season.
The Blazers grabbed the lead early as they took a 1-0 lead after the first inning. St. Benedict then slowly built upon their lead as they would score one more run in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to leave the Bulldogs looking up at a 5-0 deficit. Adrian then mounted a comeback in the seventh as Brooke Stewart singled to left and K'Ya Toles-Burton reached on an error. Katie Dewyre then moved the runners up as she grounded out and Jessica Sarch knocked a two-run single to right field. Adrian could not inch any closer to St. Benedict as the Blazers held on and the Bulldogs fell, 5-2.
Kaitlin Lock made the start on the mound for Adrian and drew the decision as she put her 2014 record at 2-1. Kelsey Meyer pitched 1.2 innings and struck out one and Brooke Stewart saw a third on the mound as she pulled the Bulldogs out of a sixth inning jam.
Adrian will finish its play in Clermont, Florida Friday evening as they take on Elizabethtown and Grove City.
