ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team took on Ohio Northern Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs took a seven-run lead after three innings before the Polar Bears scored three runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-3. The game was called after five innings due to rain as Adrian advanced its record to 7-6 overall.
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start as all nine batters saw an at-bat in the bottom of the first inning and Adrian scored four runs. Karissa DeVore knocked in Jessica Sarch and Kaitlyn Hinojosa drove in Macy Laws. A passed ball scored Katie Dewyre and K'ya Toles-Burton drove in DeVore to cap the Bulldog offense in their first at-bat. Adrian continued their hot offensive start in the third inning as the Bulldogs scored three more times and advanced their lead over Ohio Northern to 7-0. Ravin Toner doubled to right center to score Toles-Burton and Laws followed this with a two-run double that scored Toner and Cassondra Smith. The Polar Bears battled back into the game as they scored three runs in the top of the fifth before the game was called due to rain.
Brooke Stewart (1-2) pitched the complete game with five strikeouts.
Laws went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Toles-Burton went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.
The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to finish their second game with Calvin College tomorrow, April 8 at 5 p.m. as the teams had their second game from April 2 postponed in the seventh inning at a 3-3 tie due to darkness.
