ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs met the Calvin College Knights for the second game of the doubleheader and all seven innings were needed to determine a winner. Calvin escaped a bases loaded threat by the Bulldogs in the top of the seventh inning before scoring the winning run in the bottom half of the inning to win the game, 4-3. This loss puts the overall record for the Bulldogs at 9-7 and 1-3 in the MIAA.
Adrian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings to take control of the game. Rachel Jason singled in Macy Laws in the top of the first. The Bulldogs added to their lead in the second when Jessica Sarch drove in Kaitlin Hinojosa. Calvin slowly took the lead from Adrian as they scored one run in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings to take the lead 3-2. The Bulldogs came into their final at bat looking to tie the game when Karissa DeVore singled in Laws to tie the game at 3-3.
The Bulldogs then loaded the bases before the game was postponed due to darkness with two outs on April 2. The game resumed April 9 and the Bulldogs could not drive in the go ahead run. The Knights scored in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice squeeze that sent Calvin past Adrian, 4-3.
Macy Laws went 1-3 with two runs scored. Karissa DeVore went 2-2 with an RBI.
The Bulldogs will play again tomorrow, April 12 when the travel to No. 5 Trine for a double header that is set to start at 1 p.m.
