DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Bulldogs took on the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College Monday evening. The Bulldogs controlled both games of the double header as they knocked off Defiance 4-1 in game one and 13-4 in game two. These two wins advance the Bulldogs to 11-9 overall in 2014.
Game one was highlighted by the Bulldogs overcoming an early 1-0 deficit to tie the game in the fourth and take the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning. Kaitlyn Hinojosa had a bases clearing double in the fifth inning that scored Karissa DeVore, Katie Dewyre and Macy Laws. This was all the scoring Adrian would need as they held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for the remainder and won the game, 4-1.
Brook Stewart made the start on the mound for Adrian as she pitched 3.2 innings, allowed one run and struck out two. Kaitlin Lock (5-2) earned the decision as she pitched 3.1 scoreless innings and struck out two.
Karissa DeVore went 3-4 with a run scored. Kaitlin Hinojosa went 2-4 with three RBI. Jessica Sarch went 2-4.
Game two saw the Bulldogs take out Defiance in six innings. Adrian fell behind 3-2 after one inning but took the lead and did not look back after they scored five runs in the third inning. Adrian then capped their sixth inning by scoring six more runs as they cruised to a 13-4 victory.
Kelsey Meyer (4-4) made the start and earned the victory on the mound as she pitched a complete game and struck out 10.
The Bulldog offence was led by Katie Dewyre as she went 4-5 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. Morgan Brandt went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kim D'Arcangelo went 2-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The Bulldogs are set to play next tomorrow, April 15 when they host Kalamazoo College for a double header slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
