Bulldogs Ride First Inning to Game One Win, Split with Comets

OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team took on Olivet College Thursday evening as the Bulldogs looked to advance in the MIAA standings. Adrian took game one from the Comets, 3-2 before they dropped game two, 5-0. This split with Olivet leaves Adrian at 14-10 overall and 4-6 in the MIAA.

Game one saw all of the runs scored in the first inning. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the first and the Comets answered in the bottom half with two runs of their own. Brooke Stewart followed this high-scoring first inning with six shutout innings as she led the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win.

Stewart (3-3) pitched the complete game as she allowed two runs on five hits and struck out eight batters.

The Bulldog offense was led by Katie Dewyre as she doubled in Jessica Sarch. Karissa DeVore followed this with a two-run home run that scored Dewyre.

Game two saw the Comets shut out the Bulldogs, 5-0 as they scored two runs in each of the second and sixth innings while scoring once in the third. Adrian recorded three hits as Macy Laws, Katie Dewyre and K'ya Toles-Burton each went 1-3.

Kelsey Meyer (5-5) drew the decision as she pitched five innings, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out four. Kaitlin Lock pitched two shutout innings as she allowed two hits and struck out three.

The Bulldogs will see action Saturday, April 19 when they travel to St. Mary's for a double header at 1 p.m.
