DECATUR, Ga. – The Bulldogs continued their play in the Agnes Scott/Emory Tournament on Saturday. Adrian took out Randolph in the first game behind Brooke Stewart (2-1) as she would earn the win in the circle and provide the offense with a three-run home run as Adrian would take the 6-5 victory. The Bulldogs then competed against No. 16 Emory in their first matchup with a ranked team on the season. Adrian would surrender seven runs in the third, but battled the Eagles with three runs in the sixth before falling 6-5. Adrian now stands at 9-2 overall in 2015 after the split and will finish their spring trip with a matchup against Washington (Mo.) Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Morgan Brandt hit a two-run single to left field and scored Macy Laws and Taylor Van't Land. Randolph would add a run in the third before the Bulldogs took a 6-1lead with a four-run inning. Brooke Stewart ignited the offense with a three-run home run that score Van't Land and Rebecca Greco. Hinojosa then reached on an error by the right fielder and Jessica Sarch scored to cap the inning.
Randolph would battle to remain in the game as they compiled a four-run fourth inning. Stewart pitched six innings without allowing an earned run as they teams went to the seventh with a 6-5 Adrian lead. Kelsey Meyer would earn her second save of the season with a scoreless inning and one strike out.
Adrian then took on the No. 16 Emory University Eagles. Adrian would load the bases in each of the first and second innings. The Bulldogs turned this pressure into a run and a 1-0 lead when Hinojosa was hit by a pitch that forced in Brooke Stewart in the second. Emory would then take a 7-1 lead on a seven-run third. The Eagles extended this lead with a grand slam by Ashley Powers. The Bulldogs responded with an RBI infield single by Van't Land that scored Karissa DeVore before the Eagles followed with a run in the bottom of the fifth as the Bulldogs now trailed, 8-2.
Adrian would prove its resilience again as they would score three runs in the sixth to cut the Emory lead to 8-5. Brandt and DeVore hit back-to-back RBI doubles and Greco knocked in DeVore as the Bulldogs looked to come back again. The Adrian offense would not be able to produce any more runs as the Eagles hung on for a three-run win and handed Adrian its second loss. Kaitlin Lock (3-1) made the start in the circle for Adrian and recorded three strikeouts. Kelsey Meyer pitched three innings and recorded one strike outs.
