ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs took on Ohio Wesleyan University in their 2015 home opener Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs would find their offensive stride quickly as they totaled 23 hits, including six home runs in the double header split with the Battling Bishops.
The Bulldogs took down Ohio Wesleyan 6-2 in game one led by Kaitlin Lock (4-2) as she earned the win with a complete game and 10 strike outs. Karissa DeVore would break the scoreless tie with her fourth home run of the season on a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning. Adrian would then add to its lead in the third as DeVore grounded out to the pitcher to score Jessica Sarch and Rebecca Greco followed with a two-run home run off of the scoreboard to score Morgan Brandt as a part of her 3-for-3 game. Kelsey Meyer gave the Bulldogs insurance runs in the sixth inning as she hit a towering shot over the hitting facility in left center field to score Greco as Adrian headed into the seventh inning with a 6-0 lead. The Battling Bishops would fight to stay in the game with two runs in the top of the inning, but Lock defused the attack to earn her second complete game of the season.
Game two saw Adrian and Ohio Wesleyan combine for 18 runs and 27 hits in an offensive battle that saw the Battling Bishops earn the split with a 11-7 victory. Ohio Wesleyan would score three runs in each of the first, second and fourth innings to put pressure on the Bulldogs. Adrian would respond with two runs in the first, two in the third, and three in the fourth to trail 9-7 after four innings. Sarch would get Adrian on the board as she scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first and Greco followed with an RBI single that drove in Brandt. Adrian continued their offensive push as they responded in the third with back-to-back home runs from Brandt and DeVore. The Battling Bishops seemed to respond to the Bulldog offense that, despite 16 hits, found themselves down 11-7 after five. Adrian could not score another runner as they fell to 10-6 on the season. Sarch and DeVore would each compile a 3-for-5 game to lead the Adrian offense that had six batters record a multiple-hit game.
Kelsey Meyer (1-2) made the start in the circle and took the decision with 1.2 innings pitched and four strike outs. Payge Reed relieved for 2 innings and recorded one strikeout. Lock would pitch 1.1 innings and Brooke Stewart finished the game in the circle with two innings pitched.
The Bulldogs will see action again on March 23 when they host Defiance for a double header starting at 3:30 p.m.
