DeVore sends Bulldogs to Sweep of Lourdes

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs took on Lourdes University Monday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader with the Gray Wolves. Adrian overcame a 5-3 deficit in the third inning to score four unanswered runs and take game one, 7-5. The Bulldogs then came back from a 5-4 Lourdes lead with a Karissa DeVore walk off home run in their final at bat as they won the game, 6-5, and now stand at 15-9 overall.

Kaitlin Lock made the start in the circle in game one and tossed three innings, allowed five runs, and struck out two batters. The Bulldogs would rally with their bats started by Taylor Van't Land as she singled up the middle in the first to score Kaitlyn Hinojosa. The Bulldogs added two runs in the second as Jessica Sarch and K'ya Toles-Burton each hit RBI singles. Adrian would find themselves down, 5-3, after the third inning before they scored four unanswered runs over the remainder of the game to take a 7-5 victory. Van't Land tied the game on a two-run double in the fourth and Kaitlyn Schnieder added an insurance run in the sixth as she grounded out to second base and scored Van't Land.

Kelsey Meyer (4-3) relieved Lock in the third and pitched four scoreless innings and struck out three to earn the victory.

The Bulldogs would have to come back again in game two. Adrian would take a 3-2 lead after a three-run third overcame an early 2-0 Lourdes lead. Toles-Burton hit an RBI single and Morgan Brandt followed with a two-run double. Adrian added to its lead in the fourth following a double by Sarch that scored Schneider. Lourdes battled back to take the lead in the fifth as they scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead. The Bulldogs rallied in the final at bat as Hinojosa started the inning with a double to left field. DeVore then came up with one out and hit a walk off home run to right field that scored pinch runner Chelsea Shellman and gave Adrian a 6-5 victory.

Brooke Stewart made the start in the circle for Adrian and pitched 3.1 innings, struck out two, and allowed two runs. Meyer came in relief in the fourth to pitch 2.2 innings, strike out one batter, and allow three runs. Payge Reed (3-0) earned the victory as she pitched one scoreless inning .
