KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bulldogs met the Kalamazoo College Hornets Thursday afternoon in a crucial MIAA matchup. The Hornets stormed out to a 5-1 lead in game one before Kelsey Meyer hit a two-run home run in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-3. The Bulldogs then came back in game two as Karissa DeVore hit a two-run walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Adrian the split and leave their record at 18-12 overall with a 4-6 record in the MIAA.
The Hornets scored run in the first and third innings to take a 4-0 lead. Adrian then tallied a run as Morgan Brandt doubled to score Jessica Sarch and Kalamazoo remained ahead, 4-1. Another Hornet run in the sixth left the score at 5-1 before Meyer hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to score Mackenzie King and leave the score at 5-3. Adrian could not cross home again as the Hornets took game one.
Brooke Stewart took the decision with 2.2 innings pitched and Meyer pitched 3.1 innings with one strike out.
The Bulldogs then fell behind in game two as the Hornets scored twice in the second inning. Adrian would respond with a two-run home run from Stewart that scored Taylor Van't Land. Kaitlin Schneider would give Adrian the lead in the sixth as she hit a shot to the second baseman that scored Chelsea Shellman. The Hornets would, once again, take the lead in the seventh before DeVore hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to score Brandt and give Adrian the walk off victory.
Meyer pitched the complete game to take the victory with four strike outs.
