KENTWOOD, Mich. – The Bulldogs met the Knights of Calvin College Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader. Adrian overcame an 8-4 Knight lead in game one to score four in the fourth and seventh in the seventh inning as they took game one, 15-8. The Bulldogs then let the Knights come back from a 7-0 Bulldog lead in game two to tie the game. Adrian would bounce back with three unanswered runs as they completed the sweep with a 10-7 win.
Adrian took a 2-0 lead in game one on a Kaitlyn Hinojosa two-run home run that scored Kaitlyn Schneider. They would find themselves behind 8-4 after three innings as the Knight offense caught fire. The Bulldogs would fight back to tie the game highlighted by a Hinojosa two-run double to center field that drove in Morgan Brandt and Schneider. The Bulldogs secured their game one win with a big seven-run seventh inning that saw Brandt spark the offense with a bases-clearing double to left center as Adrian won 15-8.
Kelsey Meyer (6-4) earned the victory in the circle with 6.1 innings pitched, allowed two earned runs, and recorded three strike outs.
The Bulldogs then earned their sweep behind a seven-run first inning followed by two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 10-7 decision. Brooke Stewart (4-3) led the Bulldogs as she earned the victory in the circle with 3.2 scoreless innings pitched. She combined her great performance in the circle with a 3-for-4 game at the plate with two RBI and one run scored.
The Bulldogs allowed the Knights to fight back into the game as the responded with three runs in the third and four in the fourth to tie the game, 7-7. Adrian would pull away for good as Payge Reed tripled to right center and drove in Taylor Van't Land for the go ahead run. Reed made the start in the circle for Adrian and pitched 3.1 innings and allowed four earned runs. The Bulldogs took the sweep to improve their overall record to 20-12 with a 6-6 mark in the MIAA.
