FREELAND, Mich. – Adrian College softball senior Paige Cubberly was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Position Player of the Week by the league office on Monday, April 22.
Cubberly lead AC's offense in the two games against Kalamazoo last week, picking up four hits in seven at bats. Two of those hits were doubles, one in each game, and she came around to touch home a total of three times.
She went 1-3 with two RBIs in the 10-1 victory in game one and followed that up by going 3-4 with another two RBIs and scoring twice in the Bulldogs' 13-5 win to complete the sweep. Cubberly also helped out in the circle, throwing all five innings in game one while only giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Cubberly is second on the team in batting average with a .315 mark on the year. She leads the team with 23 RBIs and 13 doubles, which also puts her tied for the conference lead in doubles. This is her first award from the MIAA and the first for the Bulldogs since the 2016 season.
Adrian is back in action with three doubleheaders this week to close out the season. The Bulldogs play their final road games of the year on Wednesday, April 24 at Albion before returning home the next day to face Thomas More in a series that was rescheduled from Friday, April 19. The Black and Gold's regular season then ends on Saturday, April 27 when St. Mary's comes to town for the final two conference games of the year.
