Volleyball Rallies for Big Conference Win

OLIVET, Mich. - The Adrian College volleyball team, under the guidance of head coach Elisa Joris, dug deep on Tuesday to come back from behind to top Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Olivet Collge, 3-2.

The Lady Bulldogs earn their first win on the season and go to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Comets fall to 1-4 and 0-1 in league play.

After falling 24-26 and 19-25 in set one and two, Adrian came together and posted three straight wins (25-8, 25-21, 15-12) for the victory.

"We made lineup changes for game 3, which the girls felt more comfortable," said Joris. "We started focusing on our side of the court and trusted each other to play each position. Third set was a statement and it gave confidence to do Adrian College volleyball. Girls needed [the win] and it's a great way to start off the conference season."

On offense, 11 different players recorded at least one kill led by Roxanne Duran with a match-high 16. Following close behind was Stephanie Holloman with 11 kills, while Danielle Bogedin had eight.

Leading the defense was Kristi Walker with 25 digs, followed by Kristy DeClercq and Duran with 13 apiece. Leah Carswell added five blocks (two solo and three assisted) which topped both teams.

Adrian will continue its conference swing as it travels to Alma on Friday for a 6:00pm match-up.
