ALMA, Mich. - The volleyball team traveled to Alma College on Friday night and the third-ranked MIAA team in the preseason showed they belong there with a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs by scores of 19-25, 11-25 and 18-25. The Bulldogs were coming off a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win at Olivet in their MIAA opener, but could not carry that momentum into the matchup with the Scots.
Adrian (1-5, 1-1 MIAA) played Alma tight in set one as the teams were 13-12 in favor of the Scots. Alma then scored eight of the next nine points to pull away to a 23-14 edge. The Scots jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the second set and never looked back. Adrian got the score to 19-9 in the middle set but could not get any closer. In the third set, the Bulldogs hung tough and were down by one at 18-17. Alma once again played big late in a set by scoring the next five points to take a 23-17 lead.
Emily McCauley and Danielle Bogedin each had five kills to pace the offense. Kristi Walker led the defense with 13 digs. Kristy DeClercq led the Bulldogs with nine assists. The Bulldogs will play in their home opener tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM against Trine University.
