ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College volleyball team hosted a triangle get-together on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Merillat Gymnasium against three teams from the state of Michigan in Marygrove, Rochester and Concordia.
The Bulldogs (3-15) picked up their third win of the season in the opening match against Marygrove with a five-set victory (25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 20-25, 21-19). After taking the first two sets, the Bulldogs needed every ounce of energy in pulling out the fifth set against the Mustangs. Adrian hit .202 for the match and recorded double digits kills in every set. The final set was particularly impressive as Adrian had 14 kills just one error and finished hitting .382. Stephanie Holloman finished the match with 14 kills and a .345 attack percentage. Kristy DeClercq had a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. Elise Mindick chipped in with nine kills, 12 assists and nine digs. Kristi Walker led the team with 20 digs.
Adrian led 2-0 against Rochester (25-17, 25-23) but then dropped the final three sets (23-25, 27-29, 8-15) in the middle match of the day. DeClercq led the team with 26 assists and also had seven digs. Andrea Phillips led the Bulldogs with 14 kills and hit .229 for the match. Roxanne Duran contributed 13 kills (.163) and 13 digs. Mindick had a triple-double with 10 kills, 17 assists and 13 digs.
Adrian seemed to run out of gas after two five-setter to start the day and fell 23-25, 18-25, 23-25 in the final match against Concordia. Adrian collected 29 kills with Phillips totaling eight and a .238 attack percentage. Walker again had 20 digs and Mindick led the team with 14 assists and also had six kills and six digs.
Adrian hit .160 for the day and Phillips led the team with 30 kills. Walker totaled 60 digs on the day and Adrian had 21 service aces and Duran collected five aces.
