NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Adrian College volleyball team traveled to the Hoosier state on Wednesday night with their annual road match at Saint Mary's College. The Belles took the first set, 25-16, finishing the set with three straight points. Adrian trailed 9-6 before back-to-back attack errors from Carly Tyson and Makahla Jacobs forced a timeout by head coach David Kwan. Katie Hecklinski later in the set served four straight points to give SMC a 17-10 lead. During the final three points, Hecklinski ended it with back-to-back kills.
Adrian rallied in the second set to tie the match with a 25-19 advantage. Jordan Brisson served four straight times as Adrian trailed 7-6 early in the set. The Bulldogs down 9-8 scored four straight points capped by a Brisson and Jacobs kill forcing a Belle timeout. Adrian increased their lead to 17-10 after a kill by Danielle Bogedin and two straight kills by Chelsea Jordan. SMC cut the lead down to 23-18 by Samantha Grady recorded a service error followed by a Jordan kill to end the set.
The Bulldogs faded in the final two sets hitting a minus percentage with just 10 kills and 11 attack errors. Saint Mary's won 25-19 in the third set and cruised 25-12 in the fourth set. The Belles scored the first three points in the third set and never trailed. Adrian called timeout down 7-2 after a kill by Kati Schneider and used their final timeout of the set down 13-5 after a service ace by Grady. Adrian rattled off four in a row late in the set to cut the deficit to 23-17 as Jordan had an ace and the Belles had two ball-handling errors. Hecklinski ended the set with a kill from Danie Brink.
SMC led 9-4 before a Bulldog timeout in the final set and coach Kwan used his final timeout of the set down 15-9. The Belles scored 12 of the final 15 points in the last set. Hecklinski managed five kills in the fourth set for the Belles.
Adrian hit .118 for the match with 31 kills, 19 errors and 102 total attacks. Saint Mary's on the bottom half of the box score had 51 kills, 19 errors and 122 total attacks (.262). Hecklinski led all players with 17 kills. Bogedin had a season-high 10 kills and hit .444 in four sets. Kristy DeClercq assisted on 20 of the team's 31 kills and also had five digs. Emily Ribant led AC with 12 digs. Jordan had her best hitting match of the season with eight kills and a .263 attack percentage.
