MARIETTA, Ohio – The Adrian women's volleyball team (4-9) lost a pair of 3-0 matches Saturday to Hiram College (11-2) and Marietta College (8-4) in the Pioneer Classic.
In the first matchup against Hiram, the team dropped a close first set to the Terriers, 24-26, before bowing in the final two sets, 19-25 and 20-25.
All-Tournament Team selection freshman Jordan Brisson led the team in kills with 15, while Andrea Phillips, Linnea Berriman and Danielle Bogedin combined for 18 additional kills (six each). Carly Tyson and Ashley Vernier led the team in assists with 18. Phillips had nine digs, followed by seven from Brisson and Emily Ribant.
In the second matchup against Marietta, the team came close before falling in straight sets, 22-25, 19-25 and 21-25. In the first set, both teams exchanged the lead eight times before the Pioneers took the set. In the second set, both teams were tied at 18, before Adrian ended up on the short end.
This time, Phillips led the team in kills with eight, followed by Brisson with six. Ribant had 16 digs, while Casey Donovan added nine. Tyson had nine assists for a two-match total of 27. Berriman also contributed five block assists.
The team returns home to resume conference play Tuesday, September 18th against Albion for a 6:30 PM match.
