ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's volleyball team (13-15, 6-8) knew they were in for a fight against Kalamazoo College (10-17, 5-10) Wednesday night because their previous matchup went a full five sets. This time, Adrian rallied after dropping two of the closest sets they played all season to take the third set, before bowing in the fourth set.
The Bulldogs lost the last two points in both the first and second sets and ended up dropping those sets after the score was tied at 23 in set one, and tied at 31 in set two. The first set final was 25-23, and the second set final was 33-31.
Adrian dominated the third set taking a 4-3 early lead and coasting to a 25-16 third set win. In the fourth set, the Bulldogs just couldn't find a rhythm and fell 25-20.
"Give them credit, they played well. The had strong setters and mid-players. Now we will need some outside help to get into the tournament," said head coach David Kwan.
The Bulldogs are in a tight three-way race with Alma and Saint Mary's for the last playoff spot and it looks like it will go down to the wire to determine which of the three will be playing in the post-season.
The team has two conference matches remaining beginning with a road contest against Olivet on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and then at home against Alma at 1 p.m.
