OLIVET, Mich. – The women's volleyball team (14-15, 7-8) rallied to beat Olivet (8-18, 4-11), 3-1, Friday. The Bulldogs' win leaves them chasing the team they face tomorrow for the final playoff spot. If the Bulldogs beat Alma tomorrow, each team will finish the regular season at 8-8.
"We were playing undisciplined defense and made some blocking errors early,
but we changed our lineup to get better blocking matchups and it worked," said head coach David Kwan.
"I think the right players are peaking right now and ready for a battle tomorrow. We had several standouts tonight, including Chelsea Jordan, Ashley Vernier and Stephanie Holloman. Vernier came off the bench for an outstanding game and Holloman continues to have a dominant season."
The Bulldogs were flat in the first set, never having the lead in a 20-25 loss. In the second set, Adrian broke a 6-6 tie and went on to a 25-15 second set win. The third set was Adrian's best, when they led the entire set before closing it out at 25-18. Olivet mounted a comeback in the fourth set, taking an early 7-3 lead, but the Bulldogs got the next five points to go up 8-7. The teams spired to 13-13, until Adrian got the next four points for a 17-13 lead. The team coasted the rest of the way to a 25-21 final set win to secure the match.
The Bulldogs hitting percent was .200 or above for each of the four sets, with a .394 in the final set.
Jordan led the team with 12 kills and a .478 hitting percentage. Vernier and Carly Tyson led in assists with 18 each. Kristi Walker topped all in digs with 22, while Holloman added 10 block assists and two aces.
It all comes down to tomorrow's 1:00 p.m. home match against Alma on Senior Day.
