NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.- Adrian College sweeps through its first day of the Manchester Tournament with ease by beating Ohio Wesleyan and Capital. Each set resulted in a three sets to one Bulldog advantage to give Adrian College its first two wins of 2013, and put them on a two match win streak.
The first match saw Adrian College win 25-16, 25-18, 19-25, 25-8. This was a close contest after the first three sets were fought hard, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead two sets to one. The fourth set was the deciding factor as Adrian College took an early eight to three advantage, and then they proceeded to go on a 10 point run to which Ohio Wesleyan could not recover.
Jordan Brisson led the offense with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .297. Margo Joubran and Linnea Berriman also added to the dominant victory by tallying 13 and 11 kills respectively. Carly Tyson contributed heavily compiling 23 assists, and Ellie Mindick led the defense totaling 13 digs.
The Bulldogs won the second match after falling behind early one set to none (25-18). Adrian College then rebounded to take the second set 28-26. They used this victory to be a huge momentum swing that propelled a win in the third set by a 25-18 count and the fourth set 25-17. This allowed for the Bulldogs to finish the weekend as the sole undefeated team of the tournament.
Jordan Brisson and Margo Joubran again led the Bulldog offense by combing for 23 kills. Carly Tyson contributed tallying another 20 assists, and Kristi Walker returned to compile 30 digs.
Coach David Kwan was pleased with the two big wins, "It was nice to have a stable line up and have our court captain (Kristi Walker) be there doing what she does best. She definitely helps her teammates excel and helps the team reach their full potential. Jordan Brisson was dynamic and Carly Tyson was an all-around contributor. Tyson put up a great block along with her great assist numbers. She caused the other teams to change their offensive approach."
Adrian College will finish the Manchester Tournament tomorrow, September 14th playing Manchester at 11 a.m. and Anderson (Ind.) at 1 p.m.
