ADRIAN, Mich.- The Bulldogs crossed town to play local rival Siena Heights University in a non-conference match Friday night. Adrian College fell behind two sets to zero for the second straight match, and for the second straight match the Bulldogs rallied to force a fifth set. Unfortunately, this time the result did not favor Adrian as they fell (15-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 10-15). This loss leaves the Bulldogs at 5-12 overall and 1-7 in the MIAA for the season.
The match started out with the Bulldogs dropping the first two sets in decisive manner to the Saints giving up early leads that left Adrian College fighting an uphill battle. However, the third set was once again time for an offensive surge from the Bulldogs. Adrian totaled 12 kills and stepped up their defensive play by holding Siena Heights to a hitting percentage of a mere .103. The fourth set was won in comeback fashion. After falling behind late in the set 20-21, the Bulldogs rallied to go on a five point run that was highlighted by two Jessica Walters service aces that forced the fifth and final set. In the fifth set, Adrian College ran out of steam and fell to a 3-2 match loss. In this set, the Saints started quickly by taking a commanding 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs were never able to bounce back and take the lead, and a late five point Saints run sealed the match.
Jordan Brisson bounced back after being held in check by Saint Mary's to lead Adrian College in kills with 13. Linnea Berriman had another efficient night offensively as she compiled nine kills on a hitting percentage of .444. Carly Tyson and Nicole Motz once again were key contributors totaling 16 and 17 assists respectively. Senior libero Kristi Walker led the Bulldog defense with 18 digs from her middle back position.
Adrian College will play two matches tomorrow, Saturday, October 5th in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Bulldogs will face Kalamazoo at 12 p.m. and Finlandia at 2 p.m.
