Comeback effort leaves Bulldogs just short

ADRIAN, Mich.- The  Bulldog's comeback fell just short in the fifth set as Adrian College lost on Tuesday night to Alma College (17-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 10-15). After dropping the first two sets, the Bulldogs showed their toughness by forcing the Scots into a fifth and final set, but came just short to take the loss and fall to (7-14, 2-9) on the season.

The first set was won early by the Scots who took an early 7-3 advantage that they never gave back. The Bulldogs then came out battling in the second set as they took Alma all the way to the final point in a 25-23 battle that was highlighted by five ties. Adrian College used this as momentum to play even better in the third set which they won in another 25-23 final. This set was tied late, 22-22, but the Bulldogs capped with set win with a three point run. This forced a fourth set which Adrian went on an early five point run to go up 14-7. They used this early momentum to control the set on their way to a 25-20 set victory. This brought the fifth and final set which was tied 8-8 before the Scots went on a four point run to win the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.

The Bulldog offense was led by Margo Joubran and Jordan Busse who had 17 and 14 kills respectively. This play was complimented by Nicole Motz who led the team with 26 assists and Carly Tyson who followed closely by compiling 20 assists . Kristi Walker led the defense by totaling 25 digs. This hard fought defensive play was a team effort as Rachel Wathen, Margo Joubran, Nicole Motz, and Ellie Mindick each reached double digits in digs.

Adrian College will play next on the road this Friday, October 18th when they take on Olivet College at 6:30 p.m.
