HOLLAND, Mich.- Adrian College travelled into a hostile environment of more than 600 fans to take on #1 Hope College Tuesday night. The Bulldogs gave the Flying Dutch everything they had and pushed Hope through the whole match but fell (7-25, 20-25, 17-25). This loss drops Adrian to 9-15 on the season and 4-10 in the MIAA.
The Flying Dutch controlled the first set from the beginning as they took a 7-0 lead that they carried through the set on their way to a decisive 25-7 set victory. The Bulldogs rebounded in the second set and pushed Hope the whole way through. Adrian fell to a 17-11 deficit midway thought the set, but proceeded to go on two separate three point runs to bring themselves within one point of Hope, 18-17. The Bulldogs kept this momentum to a 20-19 score in favor of the Flying Dutch, but Hope rallied with a four point run to secure the set win, 25-20. The third set again saw Hope take an early lead, 16-6. Adrian rebounded once again with a six point run to cut the lead to 16-12. The Bulldogs kept the set close from here by keeping the Flying Dutch close for the rest of the match but were not able to break the four point deficit and fell 25-17 for the set and 3-0 for the match.
Kristi Walker followed her honor of MIAA Specialty Player of the Week with another 19 digs. Linnea Berriman continued to lead the Bulldogs in hitting with a .462 hitting percentage and seven kills. Carly Tyson added seven assists, and Ellie Mindick tallied nine digs on the night.
Adrian College will play two matches this Saturday, October 26 in Oberlin, Ohio against Wooster at 3 p.m. and Oberlin at 5 p.m.
