ADRIAN, Mich.- Adrian College hosted #2 Calvin College Tuesday night for the Bulldogs' last home match of the season and the 2013 senior night for libero Kristi Walker, middle hitter Nicol Parker, outside hitter Ellie Mindick, and setter Carly Tyson. Adrian would put Calvin to the test all night but would go on to fall to the Knights in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-19). The loss drops the Bulldogs to 11-16, 4-11 on the season.
Adrian College has been playing their best volleyball of the season as of late and they came into the match having won six of their last eight matches. They would give the Knights all they could handle all match, but Calvin had just enough to pull out each set and take the match 3-0. The first set was highlighted by 11 ties and six lead changes. The Bulldogs took the lead half way through the set at a 15-11 advantage. Adrian will go on to take a late set lead 22-21, but the Knights responded with a four point run to win the set 25-22 and take a 1-0 match lead. The second set was close early 10-9 , but Calvin went on a four point run to follow and Adrian, despite keeping the match within striking distance, could not overcome this deficit as the fell in the second set 25-20. The third set started with the Bulldogs jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. The Knights countered by taking nine of the next 12 points to tie the set at 9-9. This back and forth would continue for the remainder of the set as five ties would ensue. Calvin would win the set by breaking the final tie at 18-18 with a five point run and go on to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Jordan Brisson led the Bulldogs with nine kills. Linnea Berriman led the team with a .375 hitting percentage and eight kills. Carly Tyson and Nicole Motz each had 12 assists and Kristi Walker had 13 digs.
The Bulldogs will play again the Friday November 1 at St. Mary's at 7 p.m. This match will be the final regular season match of 2013 for Adrian College.
