North Manchester, Ind. – The Bulldogs began their 2014 campaign Friday night as they played two matches at host school Manchester University. Adrian took down Manchester in the first match, 3-0, before falling 3-0 to Franklin to start their season off with a split and leaving their record at 1-1.
The first match saw the Bulldogs start their season strong as they swept Manchester, 3-0. Adrian jumped on the Spartans by taking the first set, 25-22. The Bulldogs took a commanding 13-5 lead midway through the set, and the Spartans could not recover. The second set was a close battle until the end as the two teams needed extra points to decide the victor. Adrian fell behind early, 11-4, but showed their resilience as they battled back to take a 20-19 lead and did not let the Spartans take the advantage again as they outlasted Manchester, 29-27. The final set was all Adrian as the Bulldogs scored six straight points early in the match to take a 7-2 lead. Adrian would maintain this lead as they cruised to a 25-16 set win and a 3-0 match victory.
Chelsea Jordan and Jordan Brisson led the Bulldog attack as they compiled 12 and 10 kills respectively. Brisson would lead the Bulldogs with a .500 hitting percentage. Nicole Motz totaled 18 assists while Marisa Dion recorded 17 assists to help lead the Bulldog offense. Defensively, Adrian was led by Jessica Walters as she tallied 12 digs.
The second match saw the Bulldogs fall to Franklin, 3-0. Adrian got off to a slow start with a 25-14 loss in the first set. The Bulldogs battled back in the second set as they forced Franklin into extra points before coming up just short by a 27-25 decision. The final set saw the Bulldogs give Franklin all that they could handle as Adrian battled to the end. The Bulldogs fell 25-23 in the final set and 3-0 in the match to leave their overall record at 1-1.
Adrian was led offensively by Linnea Berriman and Margo Joubran as they each totaled eight kills. Nicole Motz compiled 17 assists while Marisa Dion tallied 15 assists. Defensively, the Bulldogs were led by Jessica Walters as she recorded 13 digs.
