ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs took on Olivet in a crucial MIAA matchup. The Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 before they turned on their offense to come back in five sets to take out the Comets, 3-2. This big win advances the Adrian record to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA.
The first set saw a slow start for the Bulldogs as they fell 25-15. The Comets managed to gain the early edge and they built on this with runs of three and four points to keep the Bulldogs behind and take a 1-0 lead.
Adrian then responded in the second set as they tied the match, 1-1. The Bulldogs rallied from an 8-4 Comet advantage by going on runs of four and five, including the final four points of the set as they brought themselves right back into the match.
The third set saw the Bulldogs look to take the 2-1 lead in the match as they jumped out on top of Olivet. Adrian carried a 14-12 lead half way through the set, but the Comets responded as they would score the next four points of the set on their way to a 25-23 set win.
The Bulldogs were not willing to give in after this tough loss as they mounted a comeback of their own. Adrian fell behind 14-10 in set four, but turned on their offense by scoring six straight points on their way to a 25-18 set win.
This big comeback in the fourth set forced a deciding set five. The Bulldogs continued this momentum into the last set as they took the early 4-0 lead. Adrian maintained this lead as they fought off any Comet offensive surge on their way to a 15-12 set win, and a 3-2 match victory.
The Bulldogs were led by Jordan Brisson as she recorded 16 kills on a .419 hitting percentage. Margo Joubran tallied 12 kills, five digs and three blocks. Nicole Motz compiled 18 assists and seven digs while Marisa Dion added 27 assists and six digs. Haley Mellon led the defense as she recorded 19 digs.
The Bulldogs will see action again September 10 when they host Albion at 6:30 p.m.
