ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs took on Albion College Wednesday night as they looked to win their second straight MIAA match. Adrian fell behind after the first set before the Bulldogs battled back to take a 2-1 set lead. The Britons would not go down before forcing a fifth set, but Adrian overpowered Albion on their way to a 3-2 match victory. This win advances the overall record for Adrian to 4-5 and their MIAA record to 2-2.
The Bulldogs got off to a slow start in the first set as the Britons took down Adrian 25-21. The Britons jumped out to a 10-5 lead with a five-point run, and the Bulldogs could not recover.
The second set was all Adrian as they cruised to a decisive 25-13 victory. They opened up this lead with a seven-point run that left the Britons way behind as they evened the match, 1-1.
This momentum was carried into the third set as the Bulldogs took the match lead with a 25-21 victory. They did this by breaking an early 7-7 tie with a big five-point run that broke the match open. Another four- point run put the match at a 20-14 score in favor of Adrian as they took the match lead, 2-1.
The third saw the Bulldogs look to seal their victory but the Britons stormed back to take the match in extra points, 27-25. Adrian carried a late 20-19 set lead, but Albion found a way to overcome the Bulldogs in the final points as they forced a fifth and final set.
The final set was all Adrian as they stormed out to a 5-1 lead that they carried to a 15-11 set win. The Britons kept the set alive before a three-point run left the set at a 13-7 score in favor of Adrian as they secured this crucial MIAA victory.
Jordan Brisson led the Bulldog attack as she compiled 21 kills to accompany six digs and three blocks. Linnea Berriman and Jacolyn Mullins each totaled 11 kills while Margo Joubran recorded eight kills and 14 digs. Marisa Dion and Nicole Motz added to the Adrian offense as they notched 33 and 22 assists respectively. Libero Haley Mellon totaled 24 digs.
The Bulldogs will see action next in the Allegheny Gator Invitational when they take on Mt. Aloysius and Manahanville September 12 starting at 3 p.m.
