GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Bulldogs met the fourth ranked Calvin College Knights Friday night. They put up a valiant fight against the highly ranked Knights, but Calvin managed to best the Bulldogs in three sets, 3-0. This loss sets the Adrian record back to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA.
The first set saw the Bulldogs take the first point before falling behind into a 6-2 deficit. Adrian battled for the rest of the set as they traded points with the Knights, but they could not overcome their deficit as they fell, 25-16.
The second set started with Adrian jumping out to a 10-7 lead on Calvin. The Knights then responded with four straight points as they took the lead, 11-10. Calvin added multiple three point runs and took a 2-0 lead over Adrian with a 25-17 set victory.
The third set saw the Bulldogs look to come back into the match with Calvin. Adrian fell behind into an early 7-2 deficit before they fought back into a close 14-13 score in favor of Calvin. The Knights then slowly added to their lead as they won, 25-19, and took the match, 3-0.
The Bulldogs will see action again tomorrow, September 20, against Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
