ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs met Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon as they looked to bounce back after aFriday night. Adrian lost the first set to the Hornets, but the Bulldogs responded by taking the next three sets to take the match, 3-1. This win advances the overall record for Adrian to 9-7 with a 3-4 record in MIAA action.
The Hornets took the early match lead with a 25-22 win in the first set. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 13-10 lead in this initial set, but Kalamazoo overcame this deficit with a four-point run. The Hornets then added to their lead with multiple three-point runs as they took the 1-0 match lead.
The Bulldogs immediately responded in set two as they overwhelmed the Hornets with a 25-8 set victory. Adrian scored the first three points then followed this with nine straight points as they took a 12-1 lead over Kalamazoo. The Hornets could not recover from this offensive surge as Adrian evened the match at a 1-1 score.
Adrian took the match lead following a 25-19 victory in set three. The Bulldogs did this by overcoming an early 10-5 Hornet advantage. Adrian mounted their comeback with a four-point run that evened the score at 12 then took the lead for good by scoring five straight as they took control with a 17-13 advantage. The Bulldogs used this momentum to secure their lead and looked to take the match in four sets.
The Bulldogs did not let the Hornets climb back into the match in set four as they secured the victory, 3-1, with a 25-15 set win. Adrian controlled this final set from the beginning as they stormed out to a 13-7 lead that they did not surrender.
Adrian was led by Jacolyn Mullins as she recorded 12 kills and seven assists while hitting .435. Jordan Brisson tallied 15 kills and five blocks while Marisa Dion totaled 28 assists. Haley Mellon recorded 20 digs and Margo Joubran compiled seven kills and 13 digs.
The Bulldogs will see action again September 24 when the host St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m.
