ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs met the top ranked Hope College Flying Dutch Friday night in an MIAA home matchup. Adrian pushed Hope to the limit the entire match as the Bulldogs tested Hope until the final points of the match, but the Flying Dutch took the contest by a 3-0 final score. This loss leaves the overall record for Adrian at 9-9 with a 3-6 mark in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs did not let the Flying Dutch overpower them in any set as they would see scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-18. The first set saw Adrian and Hope battle through seven ties as each team looked for the early edge. The Flying Dutch would take the first set, 25-18, after they broke apart from the Bulldogs with a late three-point run.
Adrian came out strong once again in set two as they would push Hope into the final points. Adrian would take the first three points of the set as they looked to even the match score. The Flying Dutch would take the lead 18-12 late in the set, but the Bulldogs countered with five straight points that left the score at 18-17. The teams would trade points for the remainder of the set as the Flying Dutch hung on for the 25-23 win.
The third set saw a fast start for the top ranked Flying Dutch as they would hold a 17-8 lead. The Bulldogs did not quit as they would score 10 points before the set ended, but Hope maintained their advantage as they took the final set, 25-18.
Margo Joubran led the Bulldogs as she compiled 11 kills on a .474 hitting percentage to accompany 10 digs. Marisa Dion added 20 assists while Haley Mellon and Nicole Motz led the defense with seven and eight digs respectively. Jenai White recorded seven kills and Cassadine Reed totaled four kills on a .300 hitting percentage.
