ALMA, Mich. – The Bulldogs travelled to Alma College to compete in a tri-match against the Scots and Heidelberg University. The Bulldogs jumped out on the Scots in the first match as they held a 2-1 lead, but the Scots battled back to take the next two sets as they handed the Bulldogs a 3-2 loss. The second match saw Heidelberg top Adrian by 3-0 score as the Bulldogs record now stands a 9-10 overall and 3-7 in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs jumped out on top of the Scots in the first match as they secured a 25-22 win in set one. This set saw seven ties as the teams remained deadlocked at a 21-21 score late in the set. The Bulldogs prevailed by scoring four of the final five points to take the 1-0 lead. The Scots took the second set by a 25-22 score but the Bulldogs bounced back to take a 2-1 match lead in set three by topping the Scots, 25-21. The Bulldogs came back from a 14-10 deficit to score six straight points to take control of the match. The Scots forced a deciding fifth set by breaking a 13-13 tie with five straight points as they evened the match at 2-2 with a 25-17 win. The final set saw the Bulldogs fall behind early and they could not recover as Alma took the match in five sets with a 15-6 victory.
The Bulldogs were led by Margo Joubran as she recorded 12 kills and 19 digs. Haley Mellon led the defense with 21 digs while Marisa Dion added 24 assists. Cassadine Reed totaled eight kills and two blocks.
The second match saw the Bulldogs take on Heidelberg University. Adrian pushed the first set into extra points as they would see a set that was tied 11 times as each team looked to take the early lead. Heidelberg outlasted the Bulldogs as they would break the 25-25 tie with two points that solidified their 27-25 set victory. The Bulldogs looked to even the score in set two but an early eight point run left the score at 12-1 in favor of Heidelberg. Adrian could not recover from this deficit as they fell, 25-14. Heidelberg controlled the final set following 12 straight points that led to a Bulldog defeat, 25-10.
The Bulldogs were led by Linnea Berriman as she recorded seven kills. Margo Joubran totaled five kills and nine digs while Haley Mellon notched 11 digs. Marisa Dion added 12 assists.
The Bulldogs will see action next on October 8 when they host Olivet College at 6:30 p.m.
