ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's volleyball team took on Olivet College on Wednesday night in their second match of the year against the Comets. The Bulldogs took down Olivet back on September 6 in five sets. The Bulldogs repeated their success as they once again took out the Comets in five sets to improve their overall record to 10-11 with an 4-7 mark in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs started behind as the Comets took set one, 25-19, following an early six-point run that left the set at 10-5. Adrian could not recover as Olivet led the match, 1-0, but the Bulldogs responded in set two. Adrian evened the match score by coming back from a 12-10 deficit with five straight points to take the lead. Adrian then added another five-point run to seal their 25-20 victory. Set three saw the teams play back and forth as they remained at a deadlock, 23-23, late in the set. Olivet would outlast the Bulldogs and take the 2-1 match lead by securing the last two points of the set and took a 25-23 victory.
Adrian responded from this deficit by taking the final two sets to secure their victory. They evened the match by rallying from a 15-13 Olivet lead to score four straight and take the set, 25-22. The Bulldogs then controlled the fifth and final set as they jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and secured their 15-8 victory with a late six-point run to take the match, 3-2.
The Bulldogs were led by Cassadine Reed as she compiled 13 kills on a .400 hitting percentage while adding four blocks. Jordan Brisson totaled 15 kills and Linnea Berriman recorded 10 kills. Margo Joubran notched 11 kills and 15 digs. The defense was led by Haley Mellon, Andrea Phillips and Nicole Motz as they each tallied 12 digs. Marisa Dion added 16 assists.
The Bulldogs will see action next on October 14 when they travel to Albion College for a 6:30 p.m. start.
