ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's volleyball team took to the court for the second consecutive day on Saturday (Oct. 18) against fourth-ranked Calvin College. The Knights high-powered front row was the difference in a 3-0 decision (25-21, 25-14, 25-19) against the Bulldogs.
Calvin and Adrian battled in the first set as the Knights raced ahead 11-4 and seemed to be in control. The Bulldogs mounted a comeback late in the set and trailed 23-21 after a kill by Jordan Brisson. Maggie Kamp got a kill for the 24th and 25th point as the Knights squeaked one out. Calvin hit an incredible .556 (17-2-27) in the second set leaving Adrian looking up. Adrian called timeout down 6-2 after a Laura Danhoff kill, but the momentum continued as Calvin increased their lead to 14-6. Stacey Kamp and Ellie Diepersloot each played larger roles in the second set for the Knights.
The third and final set saw Adrian take their first lead of the match, 5-4, after a Nicole Motz service ace. Adrian scored the next point to lead by two, but Calvin ran off seven of the next nine points to lead 11-7 after a Diepersloot kill. Adrian got no closer than three points for the remainder of the set.
Maggie Kamp led all players with 17 kills and Diepersloot finished with 12 kills. Jenna Lodewyk had 45 assists on the day for the Knights with 11 digs. Adrian was led by Cassadine Reed and Margo Joubran with seven kills. Jacolyn Mullins added six kills and five digs. The Bulldogs doubled up the taller Knights in blocks (6-3 total team blocks).
