ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team finished their 2014 season Friday evening in a matchup with cross-town rival Siena Heights University. The Bulldogs battled the Saints tough in the first two sets, but Siena found a way to outlast Adrian and leave the score at 2-0. The Bulldogs then fell in three sets following a 25-15 decision. This loss ends the overall record for Adrian in 2014 at 12-17.
The match started with the Saints jumping out to the early 4-1 lead. Adrian battled back to leave the score at 9-8. The teams then played to a tied score seven times over the remainder of the game. Siena outlasted the Bulldogs with the final two points to break a 23-23 tie and take the 1-0 match lead. The tight back and forth play continued into the second set as the teams played to a tied score eight times as the score was even late into the set, 22-22. Adrian then took the set lead with consecutive points to take a 24-22 lead and play for the set victory. Siena responded with a late run that overcame this Bulldog lead as they scored the final four points of the set to take the victory from Adrian, 26-24.
The final set saw the Saints take a 10-3 lead that would leave the Bulldogs behind for the remainder of the set. Adrian battled back to a 11-9 score but the Saints pulled away with two runs of four points to take the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Adrian was led by Jordan Brisson as she recoded nine kills and two blocks. Margo Joubran added five kills and 11 digs while Marisa Dion totaled 18 assists. Haley Mellon led the defense with 14 digs. Senior Linnea Berriman finished with seven kills and two blocks while fellow senior Andrea Phillips recorded three digs and one kill.
