GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team gave Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) top seeded and fifth ranked team in the nation, Calvin all they could handle before falling in the fifth set (16-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-25, 8-15). The Bulldogs (9-8, 4-4) were led offensively by junior Cassadine Reed with 12 kills, freshman Olivia Welch with 11 kills and senior Jordan Brisson with 10 kills.
The Knights (14-3, 8-0) came out fast, winning the first set 25-16. Adrian would respond taking the next two sets 25-21 and 25-22. Facing their first loss, Calvin forced a fifth set by winning 25-15 in the fourth set. Adrian would keep the score close only trailing the Knights by two points when the teams would switch sides at the first eight points. Calvin pulled away following the court change sealing the victory with a 15-8 win in the fifth set.
The win has Calvin sitting on top of the MIAA standings with an 8-0 conference record. Adrian falls one spot to four with the set back with an even 4-4 conference record.
The Bulldogs will look to move back up the conference standings on Friday October 9 when they visit Angola, Ind., to face the Trine Thunder.
