ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team lost on senior night to number 10 Hope in four sets (14-25, 22-25, 28-26, 25-21). Adrian senior Jordan Brisson led the team on both offense and defense recording seven kills, 15 digs and one solo block. Olivia Welch also contributed on both sides of the ball with seven kills, three service aces, 10 digs and two total blocks.
Marisa Dion led the Bulldog attack with 20 assists. Senior Nicole Motz contributed 10 assists as well as 10 digs for the match, her third double-double of the season. Haley Mellon also contributed 11 digs for the Bulldog defense.
The Flying Dutch came out fast, winning the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs would respond by winning the third set 28-26, forcing a fourth set. Adrian played Hope tough in the fourth set but the Dutch were able to close the game out by winning the fourth set 25-21.
Hope's Sarah Feldpausch, Courtney Van Houzen and Katie Rietberg all had double digit kills for the match. The Dutch also had four athletes record double digit digs.
With the win, Hope remains second in the MIAA standings for the season. The loss drops the Bulldogs from third to a three way tie for fourth in the conference with St. Mary's and Alma with only four games remaining this season. Having already beat St. Mary's in both contests this season and having one match remaining against Alma next week, they are still very much alive to make the MIAA Championship Tournament held in November.
The Bulldogs next match will be at Olivet tomorrow, October 24 at noon. It will be the first of two straight on the road before closing out the season by hosting #4 Calvin on Friday, October 31 and traveling to Alma the following day on Saturday, October 31, the game that could decide the Bulldogs' postseason fate.
