Bulldogs Improve to 2-0 in MIAA With 3-0 Victory on the Road

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Adrian College women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with its first win on the road in conference play against St. Mary's (Ind.) on Friday night, defeating the Belles in straight sets.


Final Score: Adrian 3, St. Mary's 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-21)

Location: Notre Dame, Ind. (Angela Athletic Facility)

Records: Adrian (5-1, 2-0 MIAA), St. Mary's (1-5, 0-1 MIAA)


• The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead off a hot start offensively as the team had a hitting percentage of .289 to win the first set 25-16

• St. Mary's would keep the final two sets close but Adrian was able to close them both out to earn the 3-0 victory and a 2-0 start in conference play

• The Bulldogs were led by Margo Joubran and Olivia Welch, both tallied a team-high nine kills in the match


• Joubran added a match high 17 digs onto her kill count to lead Adrian defensively

• Welch also contributed on the defensive side with eight digs of her own

Carlie Fernandez and Marisa Dion also recorded double digit digs with 11 and 12, respectively

• Dion also led the offense with 26 assists to give her her first double double of the season and third of her career

• Fernandez dished a match high two service aces in the Bulldog victory


• Meaghan Gibbons had a match high 13 kills to lead the Belles offense

• Clare McMillan paced the offense with 24 assists

• Kaylin Szucs and Gibbons led the defense with 15 and 14 digs


• Adrian continues MIAA play, traveling to face defending MIAA champion and third-ranked Calvin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14
