Bulldogs Lose Both Games of Tri-Match

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's volleyball team hosted St. Mary's and Siena Heights for a tri-match on Saturday at the Merillat Sports and Fitness Center. The Bulldogs lost the first match of the day to the Belles in five sets (25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 12-15). Adrian finished the day by losing in four sets to cross-town rival Siena Heights (25-17, 20-25, 22-25, 13-25).

Final Scores: Game 1: St. Mary's 3, Adrian 2 (25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 12-15); Game 2: Siena Heights 3, Adrian 1 (25-17, 2-25, 22-25, 13-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Adrian vs. St. Mary's

• Adrian jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by winning the first set 25-21. 

• St. Mary's would even things up, besting Adrian in the second set, 25-19.

• The Bulldogs retook the lead with a 25-19 win in set three to give Adrian the 2-1 lead with a chance to put the match away in the fourth set.

• Leading 20-16 in the fourth set, the Bulldogs would surrender six straight points as the Belles would take the lead 22-20 and eventually the set 25-23 to force a decisive fifth set.

• The fifth set would go back and forth with both teams trading leads and tying the score multiple times.

• With the score tied at 12 the Belles would take over, scoring three straight points to take the match.

Game 2: Adrian vs. Siena Heights

• The Bulldogs dominated the first set, winning 25-17. Adrian had a team hitting percentage of .394 in the first set while holding the Saints to only .121.

• Siena Heights would battle back and take the next three sets to close out the match and earn the 3-1 victory.

TOP DOGS

Game 1

Margo Joubran (20 kills, 13 digs) and Olivia Welch (14 kills, 20 digs) each finished with a double-double.

Marisa Dion totaled 45 assists

• Welch had one service ace to bring her season total to 33.

• Besides Joubran and Welch, two other Bulldogs had double digit digs in the match: Haley Mellon (team-high 23) and Savannah Monette (16).

Game 2

• Joubran led the offense with 22 kills while also contributing on defense with eight digs.

• Welch talled 12 kills, five digs and another service ace (she is now one ace away from tying the 10th-best season total in school history).

• Dion provided 50 assists in the match to bring her daily total to 95.

Cassadine Reed and Joubran each had four block assists.

UP NEXT

• Adrian will remain at home to host Defiance on Friday, October 14 before hitting the road to face Mt. St. Joseph and Manchester in a tri-match next Saturday.
