HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs struggled to stay in competition with the hosts in the early-goings of set one, often trailing by three or more. Adrian began to find its footing throughout the final points of the set, going on a four-point run to make the score 23-24. Dominant in the run was Alex Tobler who served on each of the last five points of the contest and Grace Welch with her kill for point 22.
Adrian led set two for a brief moment, opening up a two-point lead to kick it off, props to a pair of Defiance bad touches. The set saw several ties and four lead changes before the hosts sealed the deal on the set.
The final set, despite seeing no lead changes also had the score knotted a few times in the early-goings, the last time at 16-16 when Madison Federmeyer recorded her lone service ace of the contest. The momentum, however, swung in the wrong direction as Defiance pieced together a three and six-point run to end the match in three sets.
Senior Grace Welch led the Bulldogs on the attack, earning a team-best 11 kills. She also had two assists and six digs.
Senior Liz Susitko again led the squad in assists, accruing 24 in the evening. She also collected five digs and one block solo.
Freshman Katelyn Bergman was the only Bulldog to collect two block solos. She also posted four kills and one dig.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday as they travel to Hanover, Ind. for the Hanover (College) Tournament. Their first matchup will take place at 7 p.m. on Court 1 with the Grizzlies of Franklin College.
