HANOVER, Ind. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches to close out the Hanover Invitational on Saturday. Beating Capital University before falling to Hanover College, the host. For her efforts throught the weekend, Alex Tobler was named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs started the day with a 3-0 sweep, but not without a fight from the Crusaders. The score flip-flopped many times throughout the opening set, with Capital owning the lead a majority of the time. With the scoreboard reading 20-14 in favor of the wrong squad, Adrian went on an impressive 10-point run to gain control and step ahead of the competition (24-21). In that span, Capital used two timeouts. Kills from Korbyn Koerner, Tobler and service aces by Liz Susitko, coupled with several Crusader ball-handling errors were to credit for the comeback. Tobler claimed the set point with a kill, assisted by Susitko.
Adrian's momentum carried into set two, as it took a fast 6-0 lead behind four kills and one service ace. Despite attempts at a comeback by the Crusaders, the Bulldogs never trailed and put together another long point-run (seven) en route to clinching another match point. Tobler accounted for five of the seven points, with the other two coming on errors by Capital.
The final set of the match was by far the most competitive with it being pushed into extra points, eventually ending in Adrian's favor (30-28). For only the second time all match, Capital led throughout the early-goings. Adrian took the lead with its eighth point and attempted to hold off a Crusader comeback, halted at 19 for quite some time. The score was knotted six times in the final points, before the Bulldogs were able to force two errors on Capital and clinch the match.
Despite the first set not getting off to a picture-perfect start, Adrian was able to battle back and forth with the hosts to remain in striking distance in the second half of the set. Grace Welch and Tobler attempted to gain the advantage for their squad, collecting a kill apiece to make it 22-23. Hanover halted the momentum however, taking the set on two quick kills.
The Bulldogs earned their only match point of the meeting, beating the Panthers in set two. Hanover got the first point of the set, but Adrian quickly took over, posting two five-point runs to gain a 10-2 lead. Dominant in the run was Koerner with two kills and Madison Federmeyer with three service aces. Later in the set it became a closer race, the Bulldogs lead cut to 23-21, the final two points came from errors on behalf of the other team.
Sets three and four were won by the hosts, sending Adrian home with a 1-2 record through the tournament, 1-1 on the day.
- Senior Korbyn Koerner was strong throughout both matches, posting a team-best 17 kills against Captial. She finished the day with 23 kills, two block solos and two block assists.
- Classmate Liz Susitko was an assest on offense and defense with a team-best 81 assists on the day. She also tied for first in service aces with four, all coming against Hanover, and had 23 digs.
- Junior Madison Federmeyer also posted four services aces, while also collecting eight kills, four digs and two block assists.
- Classmates Grace Welch and Alex Tobler were also strong on the day. Tobler had a team-best 23 kills in match two, 32 on the day, and five assists, 33 digs and a block solo and block assist. Welch had 28 kills, 26 digs, 2 assists and one service ace.
The Bulldogs remain on the road as they head to Trine for their first conference contest of the season, set to start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
