HOW IT HAPPENED
Alma made light of AC in the opening set, leading by five or more for the greater majority of the stanza. The Bulldogs only earned consecutive points once, as Anna Young recorded a kill, which was then followed by a Scots' attack error to make the score 12-6.
Set two was slightly more competitive as Adrian only fell by a margin of seven points. The squad even led several times through the early goings, winning the first point on a Grace Welch kill. The Bulldogs fell behind nearing the halfway point, but tried to string together a run in the final points, posting two points to make the score 23-17, on a Scots' service error and a Korbyn Koerner kill. Alma would post the final two points in three plays, broken up by an Alex Tobler Kill.
The third set was by far the closest, while AC ultimately fell 25-20 to end the contest. Despite Alma leading a majority of the set, Adrian posted a three-point run in the final plays of contest, in an attempt to force a third set. Welch was dominant in the run, posting two kills to pair with Alma's service error.
Madison Federmeyer led the Bulldogs on offense with a team-best eight kills. She also had three digs, while tying for first in block assists with two.
Emily Haas had the lone AC service ace.
The Bulldogs return home next week, as they are set to play host to the Knights of Calvin in a 6:30 p.m. MIAA contest on Tuesday.
