The matchup did not look like a close one on paper but a resilient Michigan-Dearborn squad gave the Adrian College ACHA team all they could handle in a 4-2 triumph for the Bulldogs. UM-Dearborn has won just three times this season but were tied 2-2 with Adrian entering the third period. The game-winning goal for Adrian was an even strength tally by right winger Mark Wood at the 2:09 mark of the third with an assist by Anthony Aukskalnis. Adrian misfired on two power-play opportunities in the third but did notch insurance with an empty net goal by Michael Yakamovich with 1.7 seconds left in the game.
UM-D got the board first at 12:53 of the opening period as Mike Ross scored on an odd-man rush with assists from Steve Popp and Adam Stoner. The Bulldogs evened things up at 15:33 as Aukskalnis scored his seventh goal of the season at even strength on a one-timer in front. Wood took the puck from mid-ice and got it deep into the corner and assisted for the fifth time this season. Adrian outshot UM-D 8-5 in the first stanza.
Matt Chromy put in his 10th goal of the season at 6:09 of the second period unassisted on a steal in the defensive zone to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead. Jason Knutson scored the lone power play goal of the evening at 9:35 to tie it at 2-2 with assists from Aukskalnis and Glenn Horton, Jr.
Adrian was 1-of-7 on the man advantage while the Wolves were 0-of-3. Adrian also outshot Michigan-Dearborn 24-21 for the game. Matt Welch made 19 saves in the pipes for Adrian.
